On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, we will conduct our annual fall high school testing morning for grades 9-11. This notice will provide you with facts about the day as well as an overview of our high school testing program. Seniors are out that day on retreat.

  • Regular uniform and grooming regulations apply for testing morning.
  • Students should leave their backpacks and all books at home. Books and cell phones are not allowed in the testing rooms.
  • Students report directly to their assigned rooms when they arrive on campus.
  • Students need to be present and on time. We begin at 7:50 am. Due to the length of the tests, there will be no make-up test days.
  • Please be aware for those tests with a fee, there is no refund if a student is absent.
  • Students who arrive after the first test has begun will not be able to test and will have to report to the Dean of Students’ office until dismissal.
  • Students need to bring #2 pencils (no mechanical pencils) and a calculator for their PreACT or PSAT/NMSQT test. No calculator is allowed for ASVAB.
  • There will be a snack break, and students can keep their snack in the room with them under their desk. No water bottles or snacks are allowed on the desk or accessed during the test.
  • There will be no lunch served to high school students that day.
  • There will be a whole school dismissal at 12:30 with high school dismissing at 12:25.

Freshmen and Sophomores: Freshmen and most sophomores will take the PreACT test. The scores do not count for university admission or scholarships, but we use the score reports for scheduling purposes and for helping students get ready for the “real” ACT they will take soon. Instead of the PreACT, we will have a few dual enrollment sophomores taking the PSAT/NMSQT as a practice test. Both of these tests ahve already been paid for through testing fees.

*** Freshmen and sophomores who are interested in becoming a part of the dual enrollment program for the first time in 2023-2024 must take the ACT in February or April 2023.

Juniors: Juniors will take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). This is a free military generated standardized test that assists all students in career planning. The test covers math, word knowledge, general science, paragraph comprehension, and other practical areas. We have had some interesting results in the past where students realize they may be more suited for a career they had no thought of pursuing. Military personnel come to school at a later date to interpret test results with the students. An optional test we administer to dual enrollment juniors is the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). Dual Enrollment juniors who have signed up for the PSAT will not be taking the ASVAB at the same time as their peers. Their ASVAB make-up test day is October 26.

More about ACT for Juniors: Here is a bit of information for later—Next semester, all juniors will participate in District/State ACT testing during the school day on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. This is a “real” ACT test, which will count for college entrance. Juniors (and other high school students) can also take the ACT in the months of December, February, April, and June for tests which are administered here at CHS on National Test Day Saturdays.

We thank you in advance for your support of our testing morning. As always, if you have any questions about our academic program, please do not hesitate to contact us in the guidance office.
