Anti-Bullying

Parent-educator and SRO, Officer Gomez, offers a three-step plan for parents whose child is experiencing meanness from or is in conflict with a friend during voluntary social media use. The parent should instruct their child to (1) stop engaging with or mentioning the person, (2) block and delete the person from all social media, and, most importantly, (3) ask friends-in-common NOT to talk about the person or send any screenshots.

Officer Gomez notes that often, people fail to follow the most important part of his plan: ask friends-in-common not to send screenshots of what has been said online. For many reasons, ignoring negative comments made about us is the hardest part of this plan. But NOT being constantly reminded of the meanness/conflict is crucial.
